YOU DON'T SHOOTS THE ARROW

One, two, three, four, five, six. He pressed each one by one. White reflective lettering glowed on rectangular keys made of soft, black plastic. Every time he touched the buttons of the radio in the middle of the large console, a different type of channel appeared. That was the problem with his new car. It had a radio but there was no CD player. He couldn't listen to his favorite artists CDs. He didn't understand the new app stuff installed on  phones, just as he gets excited about a song, advertisements would start rolling in and they would ruin all his joy. He had a bunch of CDs. He bought all the albums he liked. But then technology changed and all of that became a thing of the past. And now he didn't have a CD player in his car. His fingers touched the keys again.

It was a nice day actually. At the beginning, when he was getting out of bed, there was a nice breeze in the air. He was in a good mood as he watched the pale-leaved trees from the window. Then he took a shower, shaved and put on his stylish suit. He was going to a business meeting in beautiful bright weather, pleasant coolness and blue skies. He had a product in his hand that he valued. And he had to sell it. He had finally found a serious buyer. If he could sell a large amount, a new page would open in his life. And he really worked hard for this. Would the prices he had paid for years finally be rewarded? He told himself he would succeed. He was going to shoot the arrow and hit them right on target.

It had never happened before. He was never rewarded for his work. He had been trying for years, preparing a new product, finding a market, but then failing to sell it to customers at the last stage.

For two days he had been practicing the speech he had been preparing for the last week. He was prepared for any questions that would be thrown at him. And he had prepared a scene for himself at his house. He tried speaking while standing with his hands in his pockets. He sat down, leaning his back on the couch, and tried again. Sitting down, he leaned towards the table and tried yet again. He worked on how to  persuade others by using his body language as best as possible. He adjusted his voice. He tried to stand strong and confident. After all, he had full confidence in his product. When he finished the meeting with the client, he would impress everyone.

But sometimes life decides differently...

After all the preparations, the meeting was a complete fiasco. His shirt was soaked with sweat in his elegant suit. The products he put on the table with the hope of selling them were liked, but they couldn't decide on which to buy. He succumbed to his excitement and became active. The only words in his mind were "I will sell this, I will do it, I must succeed". When he became active, he spoke without any breaks. After a while, the customer also moved away from the presentation.

As he left the building after the meeting, he felt like a child whose ball had been blown by the grumpy uncle of the neighborhood. He was feeling down and even looking down litterally. If he wasn't a grown up man, even his eyes would be filled with tears and he would look like a kitten with dilated pupils. But he was a grown up. Instead of crying, he would try to understand where he made a mistake.

But life demands outcome evaluation…

At that very moment, he was looking for a channel on the radio to distract his mind. He would go back to the beginning again and again and press the buttons in order, from one to six. He came across a speaker speaking in a soft tone. He didn't want to take advice either. But it wasn't like he was giving advice, it was like he was talking about a fact. He was just describing himself.

  • You pull the bow strong. He said, "It is life that shoots the arrow."

People always focus on hitting the nail on the head. They don’t care how they draw the bow. However, life says, you are not the one who shoots the arrow. Pay attention to your preliminary preparation, the reasons you have, and your intentions when reaching that point. The result does not depend on the person. But all their efforts to solve problems, all the reasons they create, all the costs, depends on them.

But most people are results-oriented. They are concerned with when they are going to achieve their wishes. They don’t concentrate on what will come out of them in return.

So how did he get to this point?

He thought for a while about what he was listening to. As he ran his fingers across the black dashboard in a car in heavy traffic, he thought about where he made a mistake.

He thought about his wants and his needs. Then he visualized what he had, what was given to him.

  • Does wanting something very much require having it?

  • Or do we get what we want?

  • Are we the ones selling the product?

  • Or does life convince the other person?

Next time, he would work hard again and leave. Then he would remain silent and wait for the answer from life.

Most people ignore the support given to them and the kindness done to them. He thinks that he made the sale, that he won, that he lit the fire.

But there are a few who thank all the help given, draw their bow and wait for what comes next…
